Shaun Bedford, 43, is a driving instructor and driving instructor trainer from Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
Having qualified as a driving instructor 16 years ago, he has since run a successful driving school, Bedford School of Motoring, in and around the Harrogate area, and has a pass rate consistently double the national average.
An Approved ORDIT driving instructor trainer and running a driver training establishment, Northern ADI training, he is a DIAmond advanced examiner. His first check test was in 1994, when he received a grade 6, and in each of his three subsequent Check Tests, the most recent of which was in September this year, he has received a grade 6.
Each of the categories under core competencies, instructional techniques and instructor characteristics has, on each test, been given a grade 6. On a recent ORDIT inspection, he was also awarded Grade 6 in all the categories when conducting driver development.
He also undertakes check test preparation sessions for other driving instructors, after which their grades invariably improve, and indeed several have achieved a Grade 6 for the first time after this training.

We are an ORDIT (Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers) training establishment. This means that we have been assessed by the DSA (Driving Standards Agency) to ensure that the ADI Training we offer is to the highest standard. All aspects of the Training Establishment are thoroughly vetted.
Over the years we have helped many people realise their ambition of learning new skills in teaching and running a successful and profitable business. Many instructors keep in touch with us after completing their Driving Instructor Training and we are always available to offer help and advice that we have gained from many years spent within the industry.
We offer an initial suitability assessment to help you decide if the job is right for you. During the 2 hour assessment we will have a brief look at the theory exams. Following this a demonstration drive will be given and your own driving will be evaluated with advice given on how to improve it. You will take part in a short teaching exercise, with help from your trainer. We then review the session and decide the best way forward.
If you prefer, you can arrange a free half hour informal consultation. This will allow you to ask any questions about becoming a Driving Instructor.
